NEWS & NOTES

- With its win at Washington, coupled with the Shock's loss to San Antonio, on Sunday, July 1, the Fever moved into a tie with Detroit for first place in the Eastern Conference and the best record in the WNBA (11-4).

- At Verizon Center on Sunday, July 1, the Fever held the Washington Mystics to just 38.3 percent shooting from the floor. That is the 10th straight game that a Fever opponent has failed to shoot at least 40 percent from the floor--a WNBA record.

- The first of Sheri Sam's two steals against the Mystics on Sunday was the 400th of her WNBA career. She is just the ninth player in league history to reach that figure.

Fever coach Brian Winters, on Sunday's road win that ended Washington's three-game win streak:

"Our defense was good all night. We forced a lot of turnovers (26). Not only was our man defense good, but our zone was effective. Defense and rebounding always win games for you. It was a hard-fought game and a very good win for us."
