Chicago Sky News Release

CHICAGO - Following a three-game west coast road trip, the WNBA Chicago Sky (8-8) will make appearances at Taste of Chicago on July 4 and 6, then take on the Washington Mystics (5-11) for the third time this season on Saturday, July 7 at 7 p.m. at the UIC Pavilion. The team heads to Indianapolis the next day to face the Indiana Fever (11-4) on Sunday, July 8 at 5 p.m.

The Sky's road trip netted the team two wins and landed them tied for third place in the WNBA's Eastern Conference. On June 26, the Sky lost 94-76 to the Seattle Storm (8-7). Three days later, the Sky defeated the Western Conference-leading Sacramento Monarchs (11-6) in an intense, double overtime game, avenging their two-point loss just two weeks prior. Jia Perkins set franchise and career records with 39 points, the most points scored by a player in a WNBA game so far this season. Her 10 assists also tied franchise and career records, and she became the first player in WNBA history with 30+ points and 10 assists in a single game. Perkins' five 3-pointers were a franchise record and tied her career high. Coming into the game, Perkins was averaging 5.9 points and 1.2 assists per game.

Less than 48 hours later, the Sky battled the Los Angeles Sparks (7-8) to a regulation tie and won the game in overtime, 74-71. Candice Dupree made a 16'-shot at the end of regulation to force overtime and had a game-high 24 points and 11 rebounds. Perkins finished the night with 15 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocked shots. Center Chasity Melvin added 12 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals, which would have been a franchise record, if not for rookie Armintie Price's record-setting 5 steals. Price also had 9 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists.

INJURY REPORT

Chicago Sky guard Dominique Canty injured her right ankle just before halftime in the Sky's game against the Washington Mystics on Saturday night, June 23. Doctors determined that the ankle is sprained. She is listed as doubtful for Saturday's game against Washington.

At halftime, the Sky will honor the family of Blair Holt, a Chicago high school student killed on a CTA bus in early May. Holt saved fellow classmate Tiara Reed from gun fire at the expense of his own life. Holt's father, Ronald, is a policeman and his mother, Anita, is a firefighter. A portion of the proceeds from every purchased ticket will be donated to the Gold Badge Society, Ignite the Spirit and the Blair Holt Scholarship fund.
