Fever Update

Indiana Fever News Release

NEWS & NOTES

- The Fever has clinched a berth in the 2006 WNBA Playoffs, and tickets for the first home game (Round 1, Home Game 1) are on sale now at the Conseco Fieldhouse Box Office. Tickets can also be purchased all Ticketmaster outlets, the Internet (Ticketmaster.com or ConsecoFieldhouse.com) or by phone at (877) WNBA-TIX. Indiana's first home playoff game will be a McDonald's Family Night presented by The Indianapolis Star. A minimum purchase of four game tickets is required. With each ticket purchased, fans will receive a voucher redeemable for a free hot dog, chips, a soft drink and a T-shirt.

- With its win at Chicago, August 8, the Connecticut Sun wrapped up the best record in the Eastern Conference. That ensured that the Fever will match up with the Detroit Shock in the first round of the 2006 playoffs. That series will begin on Thursday, August 17, either at Conseco Fieldhouse or the Palace of Auburn Hills. Following the Fever's loss to the Sun, August 9, at the Fieldhouse, the Shock has a game and a half lead on the Fever in the battle for second place in the conference.

- Since the Fever and Detroit Shock tied, 2-2, in the season series, the next tie breaker is record within the Eastern Conference. It is possible that the two teams could tie and end up with the same record in the conference. In that instance, the next tiebreaker is record against all teams that end the season at, or above, .500. Which mean that if the Phoenix Mercury finish at, or above .500, the Fever would win the higher seed, because Indiana won both games vs. Phoenix while the Shock went 0-2 vs. the Mercury.

- Indiana Fever point guard Tully Bevilaqua has been named to the Australian Women's Basketball Team which will compete in the 2006 FIBA World Championship, Sept. 12-23, It is Bevilaqua's first selection to her country's national team for a World Championship or Olympics competition.

- Tamika Whitmore's game-high 26 points vs. San Antonio, August 5, was her 10th game of 20+ points this season. That tied her total of 20-point games for her previous seven seasons, combined.

- Indiana's 16-point comeback in that game vs. the Silver Stars was its largest of the season.

- The Fever set a franchise record and tied the WNBA record for most steals in a single-game with 21.

- With her 10 attempts from the foul line vs. Connecticut, August 9, Tamika Catchings has become the first Fever player to have more than 200 (202) free throw attempts in a single season. Catchings set the previous mark of 193 free throw attempts in 2005. She has made 163 free throws this season, which also a club record. Catchings' 155 free throws made in 2003 was the previous franchise-high.

- The 44 points scored by the New York Liberty against the Fever at Madison Square Garden was the second fewest ever by a Fever opponent and it was the fewest ever allowed by Indiana on the road. It was also the fewest points scored by any WNBA team in 2006.

- San Antonio's 28 turnovers at Conseco Fieldhouse, August 5, tied the most turnovers ever by a Fever opponent and was the most ever by an opposing team at Conseco Fieldhouse. Seattle also had 28 miscues against the Fever at KeyArena, July 9, 2006.

- Tamika Catchings' double-double (14 points, 12 rebounds) was her sixth of the season and the 43rd of her WNBA career. She is ninth on the all-time career double-doubles list and is tied for sixth in the league with her six this season.

- Tying her career-high, Ebony Hoffman led the Fever with four assists vs. Connecticut, August 9.

- With their combined seven steals against the Sun, Tamika Catchings and Tully Bevilaqua have registered 159 steals between them. That is a WNBA record for most steals by two teammates. The old record was held by Sheryl Swoopes and Kim Perrot of Houston in 1998. Catchings has 92 steals on the season, two short of the club record she set in 2002 and eight short of the most in WNBA history by Teresa Weatherspoon in 1998.

- As a team, the Fever has 333 steals through 32 games. That is just 10 short of the all-time single season record held by Phoenix in 1997. The Fever leads the WNBA in steals per game with an average of 10.4 spg this season.

- Tickets for all Fever home games can be purchased at the Conseco Fieldhouse Box Office, all Ticketmaster outlets, the Internet (Ticketmaster.com or FeverBasketball.com) or by phone at 1 (800) WNBA-TIX, in addition to select state-wide Marsh stores and Home Court II in Circle Centre Mall. COMMUNITY CORNER

- When the Indiana Fever hosts Fan Appreciation Night this Sunday, one special fan will leave Conseco Fieldhouse as the lucky winner of a Larson Senza 186 Super Sport Boat courtesy of the Marine Center of Indiana. The Fever, which opens play next week in the WNBA Playoffs, hosts the Chicago Sky (6:00 p.m.) in its final game of the regular season. A total of 30 semifinalists will be introduced prior to Sunday's pre-game introductions. These 30 semifinalists have been determined from in-arena contests, online registration and Marine Center entries. Freddy Fever will help select a group of 18 random finalists who will take part in a contest to start, and win, the boat at halftime.

QUOTABLE QUOTES

Connecticut Sun forward Katie Douglas on her team's recent success (7-1) at Conseco Fieldhouse:

"I don't know if it's coincidence or what it is. We're just able to come in here and steal wins. It's not easy because Indiana is a great team. "They've added new dimensions to their franchise that makes them a contender in the East."
