Shock game notes

Detroit Shock News Release

DETROIT SHOCK HEAD COACH BILL LAIMBEER: (On defense): "We played solid defense, last time we started the game 17-0 against them. We play good defense, we match up well, they have a hard time scoring against us, there's no question about that, and we got the rebounds, didn't give them second shots, and that's how you get blowouts."

(On Deanna Nolan Kara Braxton): "She found her 3-ball, which was great. If Deanna makes 3-balls in the playoffs, we're really good. But it was really nice to get the bench a lot of minutes, especially having to play tomorrow, with the magic number being 1 now. Kara [Braxton's] coming around well right now, she's playing the best basketball of the season, and maybe of her career, its only year 2 but she's playing very good right now and seems to be confident."

DETROIT SHOCK GUARD DEANNA NOLAN: (On the game): "I think we're just in the flow. They started off trying to stall a little bit, waiting until the last second to get shots off, so we were just waiting for them to come out of the zone so we can get up and down a little bit more and hopefully deny a little more and make them a little faster than what they were doing. Today's game was just one of those games we wanted to click, just the little things that we need to tighten up on."

DETROIT SHOCK FORWARD KARA BRAXTON: (On winning against a bad team): "We have to play every game like that, we're trying to execute everything we can to get ready for the playoffs so we have to work on and that's what we did tonight."

CHICAGO SKY HEAD COACH DAVE COWENS: (On the second quarter) "I don't want to talk about the second quarter. It's probably the worst we've played all year. Nobody can make a shot. It's ridiculous."

(On what he told them at half-time to fire them up) "I'm at a loss. I'm at a loss because we're trying to do things to try to get an edge to level the playing field. I thought for a while we were doing ok but then we start to lose focus. When you lose focus there's not much you can do. The only thing you can do is go to something else."

CHICAGO SKY FORWARD CANDICE DUPREE: (On the game) "I don't know. We were trying to run a certain offense against them and I think we tried to use it a little to long. Then they started doubling as the shot clock got lower. We needed to run a little more sets or more sets and more movement. Defensively, we were in the zone and they got a lot of threes. Deanna Nolan got a lot of threes. We were just lackadaisical going through the movements.

(On Kara Braxton's double game) "Excellent player. I never saw her play in college but obviously she's great and she definitely showed that tonight with her first double-double. It seems like everybody gets their first something against us."
