Indiana Fever News Release
The Indiana Fever has clinched a berth in the 2006 WNBA Playoffs, and tickets for the first home game (Round 1, Home Game 1) are on sale now at the Conseco Fieldhouse Box Office. Tickets can also be purchased all Ticketmaster outlets, the Internet (Ticketmaster.com or ConsecoFieldhouse.com) or by phone at (877) WNBA-TIX. Indiana's first home playoff game will be a McDonald's Family Night presented by The Indianapolis Star. A minimum purchase of four game tickets is required. With each ticket purchased, fans will receive a voucher redeemable for a free hot dog, chips, a soft drink and a T-shirt.
- Tamika Catchings was named WNBA Player of the Week for games played Monday, July 24 through Sunday, July 30. A leading candidate for the 2006 WNBA MVP and Defensive Player of the Year honors, Catchings earned the ninth Player of the Week award of her career. Catchings averaged 17.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 4.3 steals, 1.0 blocks and shot 50.0 percent from field-goal range (17-34) and 75.0 percent from the free-throw line (15-20) as the Fever posted a 2-1 record on the week, clinching a playoff spot in the process. In the history of the WNBA, nine Player of the Week honors is second only to the L.A. Sparks' Lisa Leslie's 14 Player of the Week Awards.
- The Fever tied a franchise record by making all of its free 10 throws at Detroit on Tuesday, August 1. That is the seventh time in franchise history, and the sixth time in one the road, that the Fever has been perfect at the foul line in a single game.
- The Fever's win at Chicago on Sunday, July 30, was its seventh road win of the season, tying the franchise record set in 2005.
- Leading the WNBA with an average of 2.80 spg, Tamika Catchings is looking to be the first player in WNBA history to lead the league in steals three times. Catchings led the league in 2005 and 2002. Yolanda Griffith, Teresa Weatherspoon and Catchings are the only players in WNBA history to lead the WNBA in steals twice.
- Tully Bevilaqua, with an average of 2.00 spg, fell from second to third in WNBA steals per game. If she and Catchings finish 1-2 in steals, they would be the first teammates to occupy the first two places in steals per game in WNBA history.
- At Detroit on Tuesday, August 1, the Fever starting lineup of Tamika Catchings, Tamika Whitmore, Ebony Hoffman, Tully Bevilaqua and Anna DeForge made its 25 start of the season and its 22nd in a row. Both are Fever franchise records.
- Tickets for all Fever home games can be purchased at the Conseco Fieldhouse Box Office, all Ticketmaster outlets, the Internet (Ticketmaster.com or FeverBasketball.com) or by phone at 1 (800) WNBA-TIX, in addition to select state-wide Marsh stores and Home Court II in Circle Centre Mall.
