Houston Comets News Release
HOUSTON - During last night's game at Sacramento (8/1), guard Tamecka Dixon (strained left Achilles) and Tari Phillips (broken right hand) suffered injuries that will keep them out of Friday's contest at Minnesota (8/4). Coupled with the injuries to guard Dominque Canty (broken finger, right hand) and forward Tina Thompson (strained right calf), the Comets will be without these four players for at least Friday's game against the Lynx.
Canty has been out of action for the past 14 games due to injury. She was averaging 10.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 15 games (15 starts). Before going down with a strained right calf 10 games ago, Thompson was averaging a team-leading 17.1 points to go along with 5.0 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 19 games (19 starts).
This season marks the 10th Anniversary for the Comets and the WNBA, making it the longest-running professional women's league in history. Come out and watch the Comets take on the Connecticut Sun on Sunday, Aug. 6, or listen to the broadcast on SportsRadio 610 beginning at 5 p.m. To purchase mini-plans or group tickets, call (713) 627-WNBA or go online to www.houstoncomets.com.
