Festarini Stops 37 Shots as Otters Lose, 3-0
January 13, 2011 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Erie Otters News Release
Chris Festarini made 37 saves for the Erie Otters (20-20-1-1), whose offense couldn't pick him up against Mark Visentin and the Niagara IceDogs, as the Otters were shutout for the first time since October 30, 2009 in a 3-0 loss in St. Catharines Thursday night.
While it was Visentin who earned the shutout for Niagara with 36 saves, it Festarini's performance in net that may have been better. The rookie netminder stopped several good Niagara chances throughout the contest to keep it a close game for the Otters.
Ryan Strome and Freddie Hamilton each scored for the IceDogs in the first period to give their team a 2-0 lead going into the first intermission. Festarini was solid in the first period for Erie, stopping 15 of 17 Niagara shots in the first 20 minutes of play.
The Otters picked up their play in the second period, but the IceDogs picked up the lone tally of the frame on a power play goal by Hamilton to make it 3-0 after 40 minutes of play. Niagara outshot Erie, 15-13, in the second period.
In the third period, the Otters had several opportunities to get on the scoreboard as the IceDogs had a parade to the penalty box, but the IceDogs penalty kill snuffed out any and every opportunity the Otters had, resulting in an 0-for-8 night on the power play for Erie.
The Otters return home for a $5 Friday to host the Barrie Colts at 7:00 p.m. Fans are encouraged to come to the game as Friday's radio broadcast will be tape-delayed on Jet Radio 1400 after the conclusion of the Burger King Classic (approximately 8:45 p.m.). Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. the London Knights come into town for Cowbell Night presented by Hungry Howie's Pizza and a post-game concert featuring The O'Needers presented by Erie General Electric Credit Union. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster, ottershockey.com or by calling 814-452-4857.
