The Federals came back with a 7-6 win over the Tornadoes Saturday night at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field. Worcester had two different leads in the game, including a two-run homer by Chris Colabello in the first inning.
Brad Jackson had a leadoff homer in the top of the second inning for New York, while Nick Salotti added a homerun of his own leading off the bottom half of the frame.
The Federals tied the game two different times and had only one lead all game. In the top of the third, New York scored a pair of runs on a double and a sacrifice fly. Worcester took the lead in the bottom half on Salotti's RBI single, plating Colabello.
Once again, the Federals knotted the game up. It was 4-3 entering the top of the fourth, when Derrick Pyles hits a solo homer. Ryan Crespi's RBI triple in the Worcester half of the inning gave the Tornadoes another lead. Crespi later scored on a sacrifice fly by Chase Fontaine to make it 6-4.
New York and Worcester exchanged goose eggs in the fifth and sixth innings before the Federals took the lead for good. Sean Gregory (in to relieve starter Shawn GIlblair) ended his scoreless innings streak at 17. Gregory recorded the first two outs of the frame before allowing the next three batters to reach. Albert Ayala came in the the bases loaded and issued two walks plus a wild pitch, giving the Federals a 7-6 lead.
The Tornadoes finished the first half of the 2011 CanAm League Season with a 21-26 record. The Quebec Capitales clinched the first half title, guaranteeing the club a spot in the playoffs. Whichever team has the best record based on second half record alone will also make the post-season, while the next two best teams according to their full season records will advance as well. If Quebec wins the second half too, it will be the next three teams that clinch instead.
