Jupiter Hammerheads News Release
JUPITER, FL - The Cardinals took the upper edge in the Roger Dean Stadium Fins vs. Feathers series with a 5-3 win on Tuesday night. The Birds now lead the season series 5-4 with eight games remaining.
Scott Lyman was given his team-leading eighth loss of the season in the game although he didn't pitch badly. Lyman allowed just five hits in 6.1 innings of work but unfortunately two of those hits were long balls.
After Jupiter had taken a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning thanks to a RBI double by Jesus Solorzano, Lyman allowed a solo shot to Bruce Caldwell to tie the game at one.
In the bottom of the fifth inning the Cards would take the lead when Mason Katz took Lyman deep to left for a two-run homer.
The Hammerheads would get in on the fun in the sixth inning when Solorzano hit a home run to right-center, his first of the year, to cut the deficit to a run.
Solorzano would finish the night just a triple shy of the cycle.
Jupiter would tie things up later in the sixth when Cody Keefer reached on an infield single and Josh Adams hit a triple off the wall in left field.
In the seventh the Birds broke through off Lyman. Luke Voit led off with a single before Nick Martini slapped a double down the third base line. After Anthony Garcia walked to load the bases, Katz drove in his third run of the game with a sac fly to right. Cesar Valera would then hit a blooper that fell in right-center to score Martini.
That would be it for Lyman as Blake Logan came out of the bullpen and shut the Cardinals down with 1.2 no-hit innings, but the offense could not mount a comeback for the second straight game.
The Hammerheads and Cardinals will continue their series on Wednesday. Brad Penny will pitch for the Hammerheads as he gears up for a return to the big leagues. First pitch is at 6:35 p.m.
