FC Tulsa Suffers Heartbreaking Draw to Rival OKC Energy FC
September 12, 2020 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
FC Tulsa News Release
TULSA - A stoppage time goal given up by FC Tulsa cost the club a crucial two points in a 1-1 draw to Black Gold Derby rival OKC Energy FC on Saturday night at ONEOK Field. After taking the lead in the 73' minute, FC Tulsa allowed a 90' minute corner to OKC who took advantage, despite being a man down, to tie up the match.
It was all FC Tulsa throughout the first half in every statistic but the score as Tulsa found both the crossbar and post midway through the opening fram. When Tulsa found the net off the boot of defender Callum Chapman-Page, the goal was disallowed by a controversial offside call from the linesman. Ultimately, the teams went into the locker room even at 0-0 after 45 minutes.
In the second half, it was forward DarÃÂo Suárez, scoring his sixth goal in the last four matches, who gave Tulsa the second half advantage. After a deflected shot by defender Matt Sheldon fell to the feet of Suárez, the Cuban forward sent a shot destined for the far. The ball was deflected back into the goal by OKC to give Tulsa the lead it deserved.
Just four minutes later, it appeared FC Tulsa was assured of the three points when OKC midfielder José Hernández was sent off with his second yellow card, putting Tulsa up a man. Down to 10 men, OKC Energy FC won a corner and the ball sent in by Rafael Garcia was headed in by substitute Omar Gordon, leveling the match.
Attached are final stats and postmatch quotes from head coach Michael Nsien, defender Matt Sheldon and defender Bradley Bourgeois.

FOURTH STRAIGHT RESULT
It wasn't the win that FC Tulsa should have secured, but the draw was the fourth straight result from Tulsa, setting its 2020 record to 3-2-7 after 12 matches. Saturday's match marked Suárez's fourth consecutive FC Tulsa match with a goal. In those four matches, he has scored six goals and has eight total in 2020, all since August 8. It is the first time in FC Tulsa's history that a player has scored for the club in four consecutive matches.
BLACK GOLD DERBY STALEMATE
With OKC Energy FC's equalizer, the Black Gold Derby has finished with a 1-1 scoreline each of the final four matches between Tulsa and OKC, dating back to the beginning of the 2019 season. There will be one more match between the clubs on September 30 at ONEOK Field.
