July 30, 2021 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
FC Tulsa News Release
TULSA - FC Tulsa is adding three more Bank of Oklahoma Community Partners, as Tulsa's pro soccer team continues to do its best to make an impact across Green Country. The three new Community Partners include Gaining Ground, which works to bridge the literacy gap in Tulsa, Growing Together, a community quarterback in the Kendall Whittier District and the Tulsa Dream Center, a community center in North Tulsa.
"Our work in the Tulsa community is never-ending," said FC Tulsa president James Cannon. "Through our Bank of Oklahoma Community Partnership program, we want to give back to all corners of Tulsa while spreading the love of the game of soccer. We appreciate Gaining Ground, Growing Together and the Tulsa Dream Center for believing in us and our mission through Tulsa."
The additions of the three Community Partners bring FC Tulsa's total number to six with the previously announced partners, Able Athletes, Food on the Move and UpliftED.
Kirby Mackenzie - Assistant Director, Gaining Ground
"We are so thankful for our partnership with FC Tulsa here at Gaining Ground. So many of our students love soccer and see the FC Tulsa players and staff as real life superheroes and we are thrilled to be able to watch them build these relationships and support their mentorship. The people within the FC Tulsa organization share our values of building authentic community and providing opportunities for Tulsa kids to access and build upon the greatness that is already within each of them. They do this by not only providing materials and opportunities for celebration, but also by being present at all of our events and engaged with all of the work we do."
Kirk Wester - Founder & Executive Director, Growing Together
"We, at Growing Together, couldn't be more excited to partner with FC Tulsa! Our neighborhood of Kendall-Whittier has soccer at its core. Any given evening you will see dozens and dozens of kids playing soccer in our park and talking about their favorite players. I cannot wait to see their reaction when they get to see real-life top-level players in their community and in their spaces. It's that wide-eyed joy in our kids that gets our team up in the mornings, and I can't wait for FC Tulsa to make that happen! Thank you, FC Tulsa, for your commitment to Tulsa and to our kids!"
Tim Newton - Executive Director, Tulsa Dream Center
"We are honored and grateful to have such a strong partner like FC Tulsa. Together we have served over 1,000 boys and girls in less than a year's time. Together we are giving hope and changing lives in Tulsa."
