FC Montreal News Release
BETHLEHEM, Pennsylvania - FC Montreal will end its five-game away stretch with a meeting against Bethlehem Steel FC this Sunday at 4pm EDT, at Goodman Stadium.
Montreal lost 1-0 in its last game against the Independence in Charlotte, which is now in second place in the Eastern Conference. The team still hasn't allowed more than two goals in a game this season, with a total of nine in six games, losing five times by one goal only.
"It's not easy to lose six games in a row, but the mentality of our team is to never give up," said defender Nevello Yoseke. "We will keep improving. When we have our first win, things will be better from there. We already see the progress, and we only lose by one goal. They came to our house and took three points from us at the beginning of the season. We want to go there and do the same."
Yoseke got his first start of the season last week against Charlotte, while it was a six consecutive start for defender Janouk Charbonneau. Midfielder Louis Béland-Goyette won't be available for the game as he is with the Canadian U23 team for a camp in the Caribbean.
Montreal and Bethlehem played each other in the 2016 USL season opener at the Olympic Stadium. The Pennsylvanian team won by a score of 1-0 on a goal from Fabian Herbers.
"The guys are confident even if the results are not there yet," said assistant coach Simon Gatti. "It's positive. We played a good game overall in Charlotte. We still need to score goals, but we progressed collectively and we are strong defensively. We created many chances in the last games. I know we can be competitive against Bethlehem."
Bethlehem Steel FC sits in 9th position in the Eastern Conference standings with a 2-2-3 record. Fabian Herbers and Eric Ayuk, two regulars on loan from the Philadelphia Union, are the top scorers of the team with two goals each.
FC Montreal will then play its first game at Complexe sportif Claude-Robillard on Saturday, May 21, at 3pm, against New York Red Bulls II. Tickets will be available for $5 starting at 2pm, and admission will be free for Impact season ticket holders. Doors will open at 2:15pm.
