Phoenix Rising FC News Release

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Arizona United Soccer Club announced today that it was adding midfielder Matheus Silva on a loan from Major League Soccer club San Jose Earthquakes. Silva started for Arizona United SC against the U20 Mexico National Team on April 17.

"He's a good young player, he's 19, he has good size, and I think he's really going to help us," said Arizona United SC head coach Frank Yallop. "He's a multiple-position guy that can play left fullback, centerback, and center midfield. The versatility is good. I'll probably use him to start in the back. But we'll see how he develops and see how he goes and then pick a good spot for him to shine."

Silva signed with San Jose out of high school in 2015. He didn't make any appearances during the regular season or the U.S. Open Cup in his first professional season. But he played 45 minutes for the Earthquakes in their International Champions Cup match against Manchester United. So far in 2016, Silva has made three appearances for the Earthquakes, including a start against the Seattle Sounders on May 7.
