FC Edmonton News Release

EDMONTON, AB (January 16, 2014) - FC Edmonton and the North American Soccer League (NASL) release today the Fall Schedule for the 2014 season.

"The 2014 Fall Season should provide some great drama and action for fans," said FC Edmonton general manager Rod Proudfoot. "We are building on our fan support and game day experiences from 2013, and having every team come through Edmonton should be a great treat for our fans."

NASL clubs will face each opponent once at home and once away during an 18-game balanced schedule and a total of 90 games to be played over a 17-week period. Each team will play one midweek game as soccer under Wednesday night lights comes to the NASL in July, August and October.

FC Edmonton's schedule will see the Eddies return to the pitch on Sunday, July 13, 2014 against Canadian rivals Ottawa Fury FC. With a 4:00 p.m. MT kick off, the later game will be able to accommodate the 1:00 p.m. MT World Cup Final so soccer fans do not miss out on any FC Edmonton action. The remainder of the home games in the Fall Schedule will take place on Sundays at 2:00 p.m. MT as fans have become accustomed to over the last season.

FCE will see the New York Cosmos return to town in a replay of the home opener on September 28 and will host the final match of the 2014 season at home to Atlanta Silverbacks on November 2.

"If the team is in a good position at the end of the year, like we plan to be, the weather is never going to be comfortable for opposition," said FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller. "Last season we had a similar situation at the end of October and the crowd got behind us to help with the win. We're hoping for a similar effect this season against Atlanta."

2014 marks the second consecutive year that the NASL has implemented a split season format with the Spring Season winner earning the right to host Soccer Bowl in November.
