Minnesota United FC News Release
Minneapolis, Minn. (Thursday, January 16, 2014) -- Today Minnesota United announced its 18-game 2014 Fall Schedule. Minnesota kicks off its North American Soccer League (NASL) Fall campaign on the road July 12 against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers followed by its Fall home opener at the National Sports Center Stadium July 17 against the Carolina RailHawks during the Schwan's USA CUP.
"We are very excited to now have the full 2014 schedule in front of us," said club president Nick Rogers. "It's great for our fans to know all the home dates to plan their soccer weekends. We are looking forward to some really great matchups at home, so mark your calendars now."
The 10-team NASL kicks of its Fall Season following a month-long break after the Spring campaign to accommodate the 2014 FIFA World Cup which culminates the weekend of July 12 and 13.
"We believe there will be a great momentum and interest in soccer across North America when our Fall Season kicks off following the FIFA World Cup," said NASL Commissioner Bill Peterson. "We aim to capitalize on that excitement as our clubs keep the action flowing and NASL fans will have the added bonus of several games to enjoy during the work week."
Minnesota will play each NASL club once at home and once away during an 18-game balanced schedule. United will finish the 2014 season on the road to the Carolina RailHawks on November 1. Minnesota will play a Monday night match against the New York Cosmos on August 23, a first for the club.
2014 marks the second consecutive year that the NASL has implemented a split season format with the Spring Season winner earning the right to host Soccer Bowl and take on the Fall Season winner. All 2014 Minnesota United home games will be played at National Sports Center Stadium in Blaine, MN.
Minnesota United is now accepting $50 deposits for 2014 season tickets. In October, the club announced it is dropping prices in over half the stadium. The plan includes a new seating map of the National Sports Center in Blaine and season ticket holder benefits. For more information, fans can visit MNUnitedFC.com/seasontickets.
