FC Dallas News Release
COLUMBUS, Ohio (Sunday, Sept. 6) - FC Dallas (13-8-5, 44 points) netted three goals and secured its 10th shutout of the season in a key road victory in front of 20, 217 fans tonight at MAPFRE Stadium.
Dallas also made MLS history in the match by starting five Homegrown players including: Victor Ulloa, Kellyn Acosta, Jesse Gonzalez, Coy Craft and Alejandro Zendejas.
Crew SC looked dangerous in the seventh minute of the match, when defender Michael Parkhurst played a through ball to Hector Jimenez on the right flank. The right back ran at goal and looked to have forward Jack McInerney picked out with a quick pass to the top of the six-yard box but FC Dallas defender Zach Loyd was able to dispossess Columbus with a slide tackle to deny Crew SC of a shot on goal.
Columbus was awarded a penalty kick in the 24th minute when a cross from the left flank gave Crew SC's McInerney a chance to sell referee Baldomero Toledo on a foul in the area. Toledo agreed with McInernery and sent Columbus' Federico Higua?n to the spot. For the second week in a row, Homegrown goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez was forced to stare down a proven goal scorer from the spot, and for the second time, the 20-year-old was able to make the striker push his shot wide of goal. Higua?n knocked a low shot two feet wide of the post to Gonzalez's right to keep the match knotted, 0-0.
The miss ignited FC Dallas' attack and the visitors put the ball in the back of the net three minutes later when Kellyn Acosta lobbed a corner kick to the back post for David Texeira. The Uruguayan forward rose above his marker to head a return pass to the near post for Atiba Harris to calmly nod into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
Dallas held Columbus without a shot on goal in the first half. It was the sixth time this season FCD was able to accomplish the feat.
Acosta had the first good look for FC Dallas in the 59th minute of the second half. The midfielder whistled a free kick wide of the left post after Michael Barrios earned the set piece opportunity, 25 yards away from goal.
FC Dallas defended for the next nine minutes without seeing much of the ball but then managed to catch Columbus with a quick counter-attack goal in the 69th minute. Harris set up the goal with a clearance attempt that hit Barrios in stride and the speedy midfielder did the rest, sprinting 60 yards with the ball before beating Crew SC goalkeeper Steve Clark low to his right side to make it 2-0.
The counter struck again, just three minutes later when Barrios played a ball for himself into space and used his speed to outrun Columbus' back line. The Colombian nearly had his second of the night but Clark made a nice save. Unfortunately for the goalkeeper, the ball rebounded out to Texeira, who ripped a low hard shot into the far corner of the net from just outside the area.
Dallas' newest signing, Ezequiel Cirigliano, who came to MLS on loan from Argentine side River Plate on July 22, made his debut in the 79th minute.
FC Dallas returns home to take on New York City FC at Toyota Stadium this Saturday, Sept. 12. The match, presented by Raytheon, is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. CT.

FC DALLAS HEAD COACH OSCAR PAREJA
On tonight's match...
A lot of tactical moves with a team who possessed the ball pretty well, and I thought we played very intelligently. Our group played a perfect game today, and the small things that we asked them to do, first to have the urgency and initiative to penetrate and have possession and be patient to take advantage of our options to score. In the second half, I have to prize these guys the way they play the game and they did a good job and I'm very proud of them
On how his players filled in for missing starters...
It's huge for the club to see five Homegrowns starting and one other one on the bench and have another one with a national team call, so that made us proud. At the same time, we needed to come here to a very difficult place and get a win in a game that could put us in a great spot. It was a big responsibility for these young guys, but they stepped up to it, and I thought they deserve it and they got a huge win.
On what this result says about his team...
The boys are growing, you know, just managing the tempo and managing the ups and downs in the game, and having patience when things aren't bouncing their way. But at the same time know that it's a ninety plus minute game and they didn't get desperate after the PK, they kept their composure, we waited for our moment to attack them and be sharp. We were very fine in front of the goal. So all those things together just made us deserve the points today in a perfect game.
FC DALLAS DEFENDER ZACH LOYD
On tonight's victory...
It was huge for us. We are still a couple games back in the Western Conference, so those three points on the road for us puts us right back in the fight for the Supporters' Shield. Guys that stepped up today are guys that haven't been getting a lot of minutes. They showed their quality and that is just a testament to them.
On the successfulness of executing their plan...
It went exactly as planned. It really helped getting that early goal, which forced Columbus to throw more numbers forward, so it left them really open to the counter in the second half and I thought we did really well executing what we planned all week.
On the performance of players in the midst of an international call-up period...
It's just a growing game for us. Not only have guys that haven't played much, but our road record this year has not been impressive, so to come on the road and get a big three points at this stage of the season, it definitely gives us confidence going forward and hopefully we can build off of this.
FC DALLAS MIDFIELDER VICTOR ULLOA
On tonight's victory...
A huge road game for us. We knew the points were up for grabs and what a great win away from home.
On less experienced players filling in during tonight's match...
We knew that we have a group of guys that can step up and play at any time and they showed it tonight. It was a huge three points for us on the road.
On what FC Dallas needs to do to extend its winning streak...
Just keep our momentum coming. We had a good game tonight, had a game plan, came in and it worked out well for us. [Now we need] to get prepared for New York, another big game at home this week.
Next FC Dallas home game is Saturday, September 12th at 7:30 PM vs New York City FC at Toyota Stadium. Purchase your tickets at www.fcdallas.com.
