
FC Dallas to host U.S. Open Cup match next Wednesday

Dallas, Tex. - FC Dallas will begin play in the 2005 U.S. Open Cup by hosting the Wilmington Hammerheads of the United Soccer League Second Division (USL-2) on Wednesday, July 13 at 7 p.m. at the University of Texas at Dallas (located at intersection of Waterview and Campbell in Richardson).
Tickets for the match, which will be available at the stadium beginning at 5:30 p.m., will be $5.
Wilmington advanced to the third round with a 5-0 victory over Dallas Roma on June 29. The Hammerheads currently sit in third place in the USL-2 standings with a 7-4-1 record for 22 points. They are led by forward Ryan Miller who has recorded seven goals in 11 matches this season with Wilmington.
If FC Dallas wins on July 13 they will travel to Ohio to take on the Columbus Crew (MLS) on August 3 at Jesse Owens Stadium.
Dating back to 1914, the U.S. Open Cup is the oldest soccer cup competition in the United States and is among the oldest in the world. Open to all affiliated amateur and professional teams in the U.S., the annual Open Cup is a single-elimination tournament based on similar competitions played across the world concurrent with domestic league action. The winner of the tournament will receive $100,000 in prize money, while the runner-up receives $50,000. Dallas won the tournament in 1997.
