FC Dallas News Release

SEATTLE, Washington - FC Dallas fell, 2-1, to Seattle Sounders FC tonight at CenturyLink Field.

Seattle opened up the scoring in the dying minutes of the first half on their 10th corner of the game. Nicolas Lodeiro sent a ball in from the flag, finding defender Chad Marshall, who was making a near post run. His glancing header slipped by Jesse Gonzalez to the far post to give the Sounders a 1-0 lead at the break.

On the other side of the half, it was the newcomer Dominique Badji who answered back, leveling the game for FCD in the 52nd minute. Left back Marquinhos Pedroso started the play by sending in a cross from the flank. The pass was brought down brilliantly by Maxi Urruti in the box. The forward clipped the ball between two defenders after chesting the ball down to his feet. Michael Barrios ran on to the pass and clipped a ball into the six-yard box for Badji. The forward used his chest to redirect a shot past Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Frei to tie the match, 1-1.

Lodeiro would put Seattle up once again off a set piece in the 63rd minute, this time finding the net himself. The No. 10 sent a curling ball in from a low angle that slipped through the mass of bodies in front untouched and eluded Gonzalez to the far post.

General thoughts on the match...

I am very proud of our players, very proud of the effort in such a difficult environment to play. I thought we played very well. We played against a good side in Seattle. They have been on a good run. Today, with the amount of corner kicks that we gave up, it was difficult to control them on set pieces. [Nicolas] Lodeiro did a good job in that part, but I am proud of our players. Especially in the second half when we played and found our goal. We were able to put the ball on the ground and play well.

It was a very competitive game. Congratulations to Seattle. It was a beautiful MLS game today with a lot of passion and intensity but with a lot of players from both sides that wanted to give the fans all. That is remarkable.

At this point in the season everyone is scratching to get points and that is part of this beautiful game.

On Dominic Badji...

It was important for Dominic to make his debut for us today and have that goal. I think it is a great way to come into the team. We still have a lot of games left and we have accumulated a lot of points already this season that has put us in a good position. We'll regroup and try to bounce back but having Dominic and Pablo [Aránguiz] in action today is really refreshing and it is going to help us.

On Pablo Aránguiz...

I am very happy to see his talent in there. Pablo brought a lot of creativity. He has been with us for only a short time. MLS is going to have a great player there. It was a good investment to bring his talent and his youth into this league. I am very content with him. In defeat, you have your feelings hurt, but a lot of positive things happened for us today.

FC Dallas forward Dominic Badji

On making his debut...

It felt good. It was nice to be out there, nice to play a game again. Not the result we wanted but it definitely felt good to be out there and play with the guys.

On his goal...

Just to get in the box, all the wingers... Barrios and Lamah, when they get to the side they're going to look for me in the box and at least give me a chance. I knew if I got myself in the box I might be able to get a piece of it.

On connecting with his new teammates as the match went on...

It was tough. I bring a lot more to the game than what I showed, especially in the first half. Just getting my feet wet... I have to keep going. The game is not going to slow down for you so I just have to adapt, which is going to take a couple games but there was glimpses there that showed I am going to get a lot of chances to score goals here.

On working with Maxi Urruti...

As with anything, chemistry takes time. It's slow but reps in practice and most importantly, playing together in games is what is going to solidify that. That's something I am looking forward to doing.
