SANDY, Utah - Real Salt Lake picked up goals from Andy Williams and Fabian Espindola to claim a 2-0 win over visiting FC Dallas Saturday night in front of 17,734 fans at Rio Tinto Stadium.
The two teams stayed deadlocked in a scoreless battle throughout the first half with each side getting few solid chances as both sides were quick to break up any mounting attacks.
In the second half, Real Salt Lake ended the stalemate with a little luck on their side on a free kick from about 30 yards out. Kyle Beckerman tapped the ball to Williams who curled a shot over the wall. FC Dallas goalkeeper Kevin Hartman, who tallied five saves on the night, uncharacteristically had trouble controlling the spinning shot and the ball slipped past him to give RSL a 1-0 advantage.
As the final seconds wound down, Espindola took advantage of a Dallas turnover, cut into the area and slotted a low shot past Hartman, giving RSL enough insurance to put the game out of reach.
The two sides are set to meet again on Tuesday, July 12, at Pizza Hut Park in the quarterfinal round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
Tickets are $12 for current FC Dallas season ticket holders, including full, partial and flex plans. All full season ticket holders will have their usual seats reserved for the match. Meanwhile, general admission tickets for non-plan holders are $18.
