FRISCO, Texas - FC Dallas (10-7-6, 36 points) downed Colorado 3-1 tonight in front of 15,731 fans at Toyota Stadium.

The three goals scored on the night tied FC Dallas (38) with the Portland Timbers FC (38) for the most goals in Major League Soccer this season.

Two of FC Dallas' three goals came in a two-minute span in the opening 12 minutes of the match. Making his first start since April 26, Michel set up the first goal with a pinpoint cross played in from the right flank to Walker Zimmerman. The 21-year-old defender dove to redirect a header on goal, but Colorado goalkeeper Clint Irwin turned the chance away with a diving save to his right side. Irwin's save fell to the feet of FC Dallas captain Matt Hedges, who was in prefect position to finish the chance with a first-time pass into the back of the net for his second goal of the season.

Dallas' second goal came in the 11th minute when Michel beat Irwin to his left side for his team-leading seventh goal of the season. The goal came via a penalty kick, which was earned by rookie Tesho Akindele, who had won a ball played over the top of the Rapids back line. Akindele batted Marvell Wynne for the ball at the top left corner of the area when he was taken down by the veteran defender and referee Carlos Rivero pointed to the spot.

The pair of goals was the first scored by FC Dallas in the opening 12 minutes of a match since Milton Rodriguez and Marvin Chavez netted two goals against Sporting Kansas City on Sept. 25, 2010.

FC Dallas took a 3-0 lead in the 56th minute on a play that, once again, began with the left boot of Michel. The Brazilian received a pass on the left flank and lofted a ball into the area for Akindele. A Colorado defender deflected the cross, but directly into the path of a late-arriving Fabian Castillo. The Colombian knocked a sharp, left-footed shot past Irwin to give the home side a three-goal cushion.

Castillo's strike was his sixth goal in the last eight matches across all competitions.

Gabriel Torres pulled a goal back for Colorado in the 86th minute. The second half substitute drew a penalty 18 minutes after coming on for Carlos Alvarez. The play began when Torres cut in front of FC Dallas right back Je-Vaughn Watson to win the ball inside the area. Torres went down when the Jamaican stuck a foot in to attempt to win back the ball and once again, Rivero awarded a penalty kick. The Panamanian forward trotted to the penalty spot and waited for FC Dallas goalkeeper Raul Fernandez to go to his right before slipping an easy pass into the left side-netting to make it a 3-1 game.
