FC Dallas News Release
FRISCO, Texas - FC Dallas got four goals from two Argentine players, newcomer Max Urruti and Mauro Diaz, to defeat Alianza FC, 4-0, in a preseason friendly tonight at Toyota Stadium.
FC Dallas opened up the scoring in the fourth minute. Atiba Harris setup the goal from the right flank. After going past his defender the St. Kitts native served a cross into the head of striker Max Urruti. The Argentine did well with his first opportunity, redirecting a glancing header by Alianza FC goalkeeper Elmer Iglesias. The shot smacked off the post but found its way back to Urruti, who finished easily giving FC Dallas a 1-0 lead.
FC Dallas was whistled for a pass back to goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez in the 14th minute of match, which gave Alianza a dangerous indirect free kick opportunity from just outside the six-yard box. Colombian Michael Barrios stepped up to make a big defensive play for Dallas, charging off the goal line to block the shot with his chest, sending the ball over the end line and preserving the one-goal lead.
Urruti picked up his second of the game in the 27th minute, when Fabian Castillo recovered the ball in Alianza's half of the field. Castillo quickly worked the ball to Mauro Diaz. The Argentine continued the combination play on to his countryman, Urruti, who found ample space in the middle of the pitch, just outside of the area. Urruti picked his head up and curled a hard shot around Iglesias to put Dallas ahead, 2-0.
Diaz found the back of the net to make it 3-0 in favor of FC Dallas in the 61st minute. The play began on the opposite side of the pitch, with an Alianza corner kick. Following the cross, Barrios sprinted to beat his man to the ball and ignited Dallas' counter attack. The ball went out wide to Castillo, who waited for Diaz to make his run into open space. Castillo played a perfectly-weighted pass ahead of Diaz and the playmaker turned goal scorer, chipping Iglesias from just inside the area.
Diaz punished Alianza FC for a foul just outside the area in the 83rd minute. The No. 10 picked out the perfect spot, just over the top of the wall and just under the crossbar, to make it a 4-0 final.
