New York Red Bulls News Release

DAVENPORT, Fla. - The New York Red Bulls continued the 2016 preseason with a 5-2 scrimmage victory over the University of Central Florida Saturday afternoon at the Omni Resort at ChampionsGate.

Following the UCF scrimmage, New York and Toronto FC finished with a 1-1 draw after 70 minutes of play.

In the 5-2 win vs. UCF, four Red Bulls collected goals as Bradley Wright-Phillips, Ronald Zubar, Sacha Kljestan and Anatole Abang (2) found the back of the net in the win.

New York opened the scoring in the 12th minute as Bradley Wright-Phillips finished a perfect pass from Gonzalo Veron to give the Red Bulls an early 1-0 lead. Both Wright-Phillips and Veron have looked sharp the entire preseason for New York.

In the 27th minute, UCF scored its first of two penalty kicks of the day as Jakov Basic scored to even the match at one.

The tie was short as Ronald Zubar scored his first goal of the preseason just two minutes later to give New York the lead for good at 2-1.

In the 34th minute Sacha Kljestan added to the lead as he scored on a perfect pass from Kemar Lawrence to give the Red Bulls a 3-1 advantage.

UCF got another goal in the 54th minute on another penalty kick, but two goals from Abang rounded out the scoring at 5-2.

It was the first action of the preseason for Abang as he returned from a slight hamstring injury.

The Red Bulls continue preseason play Wednesday in Clearwater vs. the Philadelphia Union. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. with live coverage via Red Bulls Radio on TuneIn.
