In their fourth scrimmage of the preseason (2-1-1), FC Dallas used two goals one from Bobby Rhine and the other from Philip Salyer to down the SMU Mustangs Men's Soccer team 2-0 on Thursday. After the two teams went scoreless for the first 40 minutes of the match, Rhine tallied what proved to be the game-winner. Eddie Johnson made a quick pass to Ronnie O'Brien who made a brilliant through pass to Rhine in the box who buried the goal past the SMU goalkeeper to give FC Dallas a lead they would never relinquish.
In the 54th minute of the match, David Wagenfuhr made a terrific centering pass from the left corner where Johnson headed the ball directly into the goalkeeper. The rebound then shot directly up in the air, where Salyer headed the ball just past the goal line before the keeper grabbed it. It was Salyer's second goal in as many matches.
Head Coach Colin Clarke on the scrimmage: "Tonight was good for us because it gave our team an opportunity to push some of our guys 60 or so minutes. We had a hard week of training and then finished it with a match and I think it showed a little. We still have plenty to work on as we get ready for our Spain trip. We'll continue to work on the things we need to and will look forward to two weeks of hard training overseas."
FC Dallas will leave on Saturday for La Manga, Spain where the team will train for two weeks from Feb. 26 â Mar. 11. For all your updated FC Dallas news, please visit fcdallas.net.
