FC Dallas and Charleston Meet in Open Cup Quarterfinals

FRISCO, Texas (Tuesday, July 10, 2007) - FC Dallas and the Charleston Battery will meet for the second consecutive year in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, when FCD travels to Blackbaud Stadium in South Carolina on Tuesday, August 7 for the Quarterfinal Round match-up (6:30 p.m. CT). The Battery, which play in the United Soccer League (Division 1), advanced to this year's Quarterfinals with a 1-0 home victory over the Houston Dynamo on Tuesday evening. Dallas advanced to its fourth consecutive Quarterfinal appearance with by defeating the Atlanta Silverbacks (USL-D1) 4-3 on penalty kicks after tying 1-1 through 120 minutes on Monday night in Frisco.

FC Dallas and the Battery met in the 3rd Round of last year's Open Cup, with Dallas coming home from Charleston with a penalty kick victory after the teams finished even at 3-3 on August 2, 2006. In that game, FCD forward Kenny Cooper scored in the final minute of halftime, of regulation, and of the second extra time period to register his first career hat-trick. Dallas goalkeeper Dario Sala saved Charleston's fifth penalty kick attempt and then Simo Valakari converted his to give Dallas the 5-4 advantage on kicks.

This is Dallas' fourth consecutive trip to the Open Cup Quarterfinals, and tenth Quarterfinal appearance in 12 years. The team has advanced to the semifinals of the tournament in five of the ten years in which it has participated.
