CINCINNATI - FC Cincinnati are set to begin the MLS is Back Tournament Knockout Stage Presented by Audi with a round-of-16 match against the Portland Timbers on Tuesday, July 28. First kick is set for 10:30 p.m. ET and the match will be televised on ESPN and ESPN Deportes (Spanish) and will be streamed on the Watch ESPN app.
FC Cincinnati (2-3-0, 6 pts.) won each of their last two matches in Group E to close group-stage play as the second-place finisher in their group and advance to the MLS Is Back Tournament Knockout Stage Presented by Audi. Yuya Kubo added his team-leading second goal of the year, while the Orange and Blue kept a clean sheet for a second consecutive match as FCC defeated the New York Red Bulls, 2-0, on Wednesday, July 22.
The Portland Timbers (3-1-1, 10 pts.) enter Tuesday's match after playing LAFC to a 1-1 draw on Thursday, July 23. After initially leading 1-0, the Timbers conceded a pair of goals within five minutes just prior to halftime. Needing a result to finish atop the group, Portland's Jeremy Ebobisse leveled the scoreline in the 80th minute to give the Timbers seven points through three group-stage matches.
Major League Soccer will conduct video press conference calls later this afternoon with all four MLS sides set to play on Tuesday. Head coach Jaap Stam, defender Tom Pettersson and midfielder Caleb Stanko will be the FC Cincinnati representatives to preview the Orange and Blue's upcoming match.

Three FCC members named to MLS Team of the Week
Two FC Cincinnati players have earned places on Major League Soccer's Team of the Week for Round 3 of the MLS is Back Tournament ... captain and defender Kendall Waston earned a place in the Starting XI, while winger Yuya Kubo was named to the seven-player bench ... head coach Jaap Stam was named Team of the Week Coach ... Waston completed 24-of-28 passes for a passing accuracy of 85.7% and also led all players with 11 clearances ... Kubo scored on his only shot of the match, but was also efficient in distribution, completing 15-of-16 passes for a passing accuracy of 93.8% ... Stam guided the club to just their third all-time two-match winning streak and second streak of consecutive shutout victories in FCC's brief MLS history.
Orange and Blue record consecutive shutouts for second time in MLS
FC Cincinnati earned a second consecutive shutout victory when they defeated the New York Red Bulls, 2-0, on Wednesday, July 22 ... the two clean-sheet wins marked just the second time in the club's brief MLS history where they recorded two straight shutout performances ... FCC first accomplished the feat on March 17 and March 24, 2019, when they defeated the Portland Timbers, 3-0, and the New England Revolution, 2-0.
Kubo notches second FCC goal
Winger Yuya Kubo recorded his team-leading second goal of the season in the final match of the Group Stage against the New York Red Bulls ... last season, it took 12 matches for the Orange and Blue to have a multi-goal scorer when Allan Cruz tallied his second goal of FCC's inaugural season against the Montreal Impact ... additionally, Kubo's goal was the first to be scored by an FC Cincinnati player in a first half this season
Tytoà â in top company with two shutouts
Goalkeeper Przemysà âaw Tytoà â is one of six MLS goalkeepers to record a pair of shutouts during the MLS is Back Tournament Group Stage ... the polish netminder is joined by Stefan Frei, Zac MacMath, Eloy Room, Matt Turner and Daniel Vega ... Tytoà â has now recorded five shutouts in 18 career MLS matches ... the goalkeeper collected seven total saves in the two shutout performances
FCC to play first Western Conference opponent
FC Cincinnati have played five matches against Eastern Conference opponents to date, but will have their first opportunity to play a Western Conference team when they take on the Portland Timbers ... the Orange and Blue posted a record of 2-9-1 against Western Conference teams last season ... of FCC's two Western Conference wins, the first was against the Portland Timbers, a 3-0 shutout victory in FCC's inaugural home opener
Positive passing performances
Five FC Cincinnati players played all three matches of the MLS is Back Tournament Group Stage and completed at least 85 percent of their passes: Kendall Waston (89.5%), Haris Medunjanin (88.2%), Frankie Amaya (88.1%), Tom Pettersson (87.9%) and Caleb Stanko (87.1%).
