FC Cincinnati Weekly Update: August 3, 2020
CINCINNATI - FC Cincinnati returned to market on Wednesday, July 29 following their participation in the MLS is Back Tournament. After four days with no scheduled team activities, FCC players will participate in individual programs this week ahead of reporting to the Mercy Health Training Center for testing on Saturday, Aug. 8. FC Cincinnati will return to full-group training sessions on Sunday, Aug. 9.
The Orange and Blue (2-3-0, 6 pts.) recently completed a successful run in the MLS is Back Tournament which saw the club claim two group-stage wins en route to a second-place finish in Group E to earn a spot in the MLS is Back Tournament Knockout Stage presented by Audi. With two wins in the group stage, FCC were one of seven teams to record at least six points in their respective group.
FCC Fiddle wins FIFA 20 North American Summer Series
FC Cincinnati's eMLS representative Gordon Thornsberry won the EA Sports FIFA 20 Summer Cup Series North America on Sunday, Aug, 2 ... with the win, FCC Fiddle earned the crown of best FIFA player in North America and a prize of $10,000 ... EA SPORTS launched the Summer Cup Series North America as part of an entirely online tournament to replace the Global Series ... his most recent victory gave Fiddle his third trophy in 2020 while representing FC Cincinnati, he also captured back-to-back trophies in eMLS League Series One in Philadelphia and eMLS League Series Two in Portland.
FCC eliminated from MLS is Back Tournament
Following an advancement to the MLS is Back Tournament Knockout Stage presented by Audi, FC Cincinnati were eliminated by the Portland Timbers in the Round of 16 on penalty kicks, 4-2, after playing to a 1-1 draw in regulation on Tuesday, July 28 ... Jürgen Locadia scored the equalizer from the penalty spot after missing all three group-stage matches with a quad injury ... FC Cincinnati were one of only seven teams to claim at least six points in the tournament's group stage.
Orange and Blue go to penalty kicks for first time in MLS
FC Cincinnati were required to go to penalty kicks for the first time in the club's brief MLS history in their match against the Portland Timbers in the Round of 16 of the MLS is Back Tournament ... FCC ultimately fell, 4-2, after one attempt was saved and one was missed high ... the Orange and Blue's last match to require penalty kicks was in the 2018 USL Championship Playoffs, when FC Cincinnati advanced to the Eastern Conference Semifinals following penalties against Nashville SC on Oct. 20, 2018 ... FCC are 2-2-0 all-time in penalty kicks across all competitions.
TytoÅ makes seven saves in MOTM performance
Goalkeeper PrzemysÅaw TytoÅ capped off an impressive run at the MLS is Back Tournament by recording seven saves in the club's match against the Portland Timbers in the Round of 16 ... seven saves in a match is Tyton's single-match high as an FC Cincinnati player ... the goalkeeper recorded a total of 16 saves and logged two shutouts in four matches.
Locadia returns, scores via the spot
Forward Jürgen Locadia made his MLS is Back Tournament debut by replacing Caleb Stanko in the 72nd minute of FCC's match against the Portland Timbers ... it was Locadia's first appearance of the tournament after missing each of the three group-stage matches with a quad injury ... less than 10 minutes after entering the match, Locadia was tasked with equalizing for the Orange and Blue from the penalty spot ... Locadia tallied his second goal across all competitions for FC Cincinnati by converting the PK attempt.
