FC Cincinnati News Release
CINCINNATI - FC Cincinnati selected former New York Red Bulls midfielder/forward Ben Mines with the first selection of the 2020 End-of-Year Waivers Draft on Wednesday afternoon. With the selection, FC Cincinnati now possess the winger's MLS rights and can initiate contract negotiations. Should FC Cincinnati come to an agreement with Mines, he will be added to FC Cincinnati's roster as a Homegrown Player.
A Red Bull Academy product, Mines has made a combined 57 appearances, including 20 starts, while scoring five goals and adding six assists for the New York Red Bulls and New York Red Bulls II since 2016. The Ridgefield, Conn., native made five appearances, including one start, scoring a goal and adding an assist in MLS regular-season matches this season.
The selection order for the MLS End-of-Year Waiver Draft was determined by the reverse order of the final standings in the 2020 MLS season, taking into account postseason performance. FC Cincinnati received the first pick, while the 2020 MLS Cup champions Columbus Crew SC had the 26th pick, and expansion club Austin FC had the 27th selection to end each round.
