Faust Dominates Saltdogs For Series Split
July 1, 2004 - Northern League (NL)
Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
Sioux Falls, SD- It started with pitch one when Felix Pagan it a home run over the left field wall to leadoff the game, and it ended with a ground ball to Pagan as the Canaries waltzed to a 7-4 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs earning a series split two games apiece.
For the fourth night in a row, a member of the Pagan family hit a home run. But Wednesday everyone chipped in. Marc Mirizzi went 1-for-3 with two RBI while outfielder Mike Navratil went 3-for-4 and had two RBI of his own.
Through four innings Wes Faust was perfect, retiring the first 12 batters of the game. But former Canary Charles Peterson led off the fifth with an opposite-field double to break up the perfection. In all Faust worked 7.1 innings allowing just one run via a solo home run by Bryan Warner in the top of the sixth.
The Canaries were given a small scare in the ninth inning as the Saltdogs mounted a three-run rally on Brad Foss, who replaced Faust in the eighth, but Foss maintained his composure and completed the game allowing three runs on four hits.
With the win the Canaries earn the series split and improve to 13-25 while Lincoln falls to 23-15. Faust (3-1) got the win while Darren Truty (2-4) suffered the loss.
Sioux Falls next travels to St. Paul on Thursday to take on the Saints in a four-game series. The Canaries will send LHP Rob Ellis to the mound. Be sure to follow the Canaries on KWSN, 1230 AM with the "Voice of the Canaries," Justin Kutcher. You can also catch the Thursday and Saturday games on Fox Sports Net beginning at 7:00 p.m.
