Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

FARGO, ND– With a depleted bullpen following Wednesday night's 15-inning loss, the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks needed an outstanding effort from starting pitcher Ray Clark on Thursday night. That's exactly what he delivered.

Clark allowed just two runs (one earned) on four hits in 8.0+ innings of work to lead the RedHawks to a 5-2 victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo. The victory raised the RedHawks record to 26-12 on the season. Winnipeg fell to 22-16 overall and are now 4.0 games behind the division-leading RedHawks.

Fargo-Moorhead took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning on Joe Mathis' RBI double and Jason Fitzgerald's sacrifice fly. The ‘Hawks added another run in the bottom of the fifth on Brian Ward's RBI single. Winnipeg would cut the lead to 3-1 in the top of the seventh, thanks to Greg Morrison's RBI double that scored Harry Berrios from first base. But the RedHawks answered back in the bottom half of the frame, getting an RBI triple from Kelley Gulledge and Ward's second RBI single of the game. The Goldeyes scratched across an unearned run in the ninth inning, but it was too little, too late.

Clark (4-1) struck out four batters and walked just one in earning the win, his second of the season over the Goldeyes. Winnipeg starter Brad Purcell (3-2) was tagged with the loss. He pitched 6.1 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits. Purcell struck out two batters and walked two. Stephen Bess closed out the ninth inning to earn his second save of the season. He struck out one batter in 1.0 inning of work.

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and Winnipeg Goldeyes play the second game of their four-game series Friday afternoon at 12:35 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field. Fans can purchase tickets by calling 701-235-6161 or on-line at www.fmredhawks.com.
