
Northern League names players of the month

Third baseman Pat Scalabrini of the Winnipeg Goldeyes and lefthander Anthony Boughner of the Schaumburg Flyers have been selected as the Rawlings/Daktronics Player and Pitcher of the Month, respectively, for June, the league office announced today.
Scalabrini batted .405 with seven homers and 25 rbi in 26 games in June. The righthanded batter led the league for the month with 45 hits, 15 doubles, and a .730 slugging percentage, tied for first with 31 runs, was second in average and with a .468 on-base percentage and tied for second in home runs. He was the NL Player of the Week for June 7-13.
It marks the second consecutive month that Scalabrini has been named as the Northern League's top player as he also earned the honors in August 2003.
Scalabrini is batting .369 with eight homers and 32 rbi in 37 games for the Goldeyes in 2004. He leads the Northern League in doubles (20), extra base hits (30), and slugging (.675), and is tied for first in runs (41) and hits (58).
Boughner was 4-1 with a 1.77 era in six starts for the Flyers in June. He had the lowest era among qualifiers for the month, led the league in innings (45.2), tied for first in wins, and was second in strikeouts (35).
The lefthander is 6-1 with a 1.85 era for Schaumburg this season. He leads the league in wins, is tied for second in complete games (2) and innings (58.1), and ranks third in era and strikeouts (44). Boughner was the NL Pitcher of the Week for May 20-23.
The last Schaumburg hurler to be selected as the Northern League Pitcher of the Month was Hank Woodman in July 2003.
Others nominated for the Player of the Month award were Ruben Salazar of Fargo-Moorhead, Curt Lee of Gary, Corey Paul of Joliet, Eddie Pearson of Kansas City, Bryan Warner of Lincoln, Justin Hall of St. Paul, Ben Van Iderstine of Schaumburg, and Darin Kinsolving of Sioux Falls.
Pitchers who received nominations were Fargo-Moorhead's Nick Mattioni, Gary's Travis Kerber, Joliet's Brian Mazone, Lincoln's Adam Springston, St. Paul's Chris Chavez, Sioux Falls' Wes Faust, and Winnipeg's Oscar Montero.
