North Shore Spirit News Release

The North Shore Spirit put a halt to their mini two-game losing skid Monday night with a 6-2 victory over the New Jersey Jackals.

Chris Farley (4-2) was brilliant for the Spirit. The right-hander pitched 8 innings, allowing only one earned run. Farley limited the Jackals to five hits, while striking out three.

New Jersey drew first blood in the top of the first. Jason Tuttle leadoff with a hit and moved to third on a single by Zack Smithlin. Jason Belcher followed with a sacrifice fly to center, giving the Jackals the early 1-0 lead.

North Shore would grab the lead in the fifth. Jeff Brooks started the inning with a ringing double off the center field fence. Two batters later, Greg deVries sent a seeing eye single through the right side, scoring Brooks with the game-tying run. After a JD Reininger sac fly, Garrett Weir put the Spirit up 3-1 with an RBI single to left.

A solo homerun by BJ Weed in the bottom of the sixth, his 3rd of the season, extended the North Shore advantage to three runs.

The Spirit would add a pair of insurance runs in the seventh. After a Guillermo Reyes error put runners on first and third with two outs, Adam Nikolic uncorked a wild pitch allowing deVries to score. Weed would tack on an RBI basehit, pushing the North Shore lead to 6-1.

Bryce Kartler would connect for his first homerun of the season in the ninth, but it was too little, too late for the Jackals.

The Spirit and the Jackals continue their series tomorrow evening at 7:05 PM. Jared Lavergne (2-1) will take the hill for North Shore. Southpaw Josh Brey (0-3) gets the call for New Jersey.
