Fargo's Third Period Power Play Goal Edges Dubuque, 4-2
February 2, 2019 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
The Dubuque Fighting Saints couldn't muster enough third period offense to push past the Fargo Force on Saturday night as the Force swept the season series with identical 4-2 victories on Dubuque's home ice. Fargo tallied the game winning goal on the power play as Michael Kesselring blasted a shot from the point through traffic.
-Dubuque played a physical game with the Fargo Force as both teams took the body early and often. The Fighting Saints threw their weight around more than usual in this contest. Both teams delivered crushing checks and there were plenty of after the whistle scrums.
-Verners Egle scored his seventh goal of the season and was a noticeable presence during most of the night. Egle skated on a line with James Sanchez and Willie Knierim to start the night and was on the ice late in the game as well. He also received power play time for Dubuque.
-The Fighting Saints offensive struggles continued as they were only able to muster two goals. The chances were there for Dubuque but they were unable to get second chance opportunities passed Ryan Bischel.
-Bischel made 26 saves for his second win this season against Dubuque. Bischel made a few quality second chance saves that were key in keeping the Fighting Saints off the board. Bischel grabbed his 17th win of the season.
-Luke Robinson had his first Fighting Saints goal taken away from him on a delayed penalty call. Still, despite the reversed tally Robinson had another defensively responsible game. He rarely looked out of play and took the body well for Dubuque.
-Dylan Jackson broke a streak of just one point in 10 games with a gorgeous goal. He teamed up with Riese Gaber for a slam dunk goal, his seventh of the season. Gaber and the Jackson twins created some good chances in the game tonight.
-For the second time this season, Kaden Bohlsen scored twice against the Dubuque Fighting Saints. Bohlsen's first two goal game came with the Des Moines Buccaneers in a 6-3 win over Dubuque. The goals for Bohlsen were his second and third as a member of the Force.
-Josh Nodler had two points and Ben Meyers and Hank Crone each chipped in assists as the league's top line kept rolling. Despite not have monster games, all three continued their production for Fargo and have now tallied a combined 124 points this season.
-Dubuque will battle Cedar Rapids twice next weekend as they play a home and home with the RoughRiders.
