
Tri-City Drops Road Game to Des Moines 3-0

Urbandale, IA - The Tri-City Storm dropped a road game to the Des Moines Buccaneers by a final score of 3-0 Saturday night in Urbandale, Iowa. Despite the loss, Tri-City remains the 1st place team in the USHL league standings entering Friday's home game against the Green Bay Gamblers at the Viaero Center. Tonight's game marked only the 3rd time this season that the Storm have been held off the scoreboard. Puck drop for Friday's home game is scheduled for 7:05pm.
Des Moines scored the game's 1st goal just over minutes into the game on goal by Michael Mancinelli. The Buccaneers added another goal with under three minutes to go in the period to increase the lead to 2-0. Des Moines' 2nd goal of the game was scored by Johnny Russel on the power play. The Buccaneers outshot Tri-City 14-9 in the 1st period and carried a 2-0 lead into the 2nd period.
Mac Welsher netted the Buccaneers' third goal of the game at 11:21 of the 2nd period to increase the lead to 3-0. Des Moines outshot Tri-City 10-9 and lead 3-0 entering the 3rd period. Neither teams scored a goal in the 3rd period and Tri-City was shutout for only the 3rd time this season. The Buccaneers outshot the Storm 31-26 in the game.
Tri-City dropped to 29-9-1-1 in the loss, but still holds a one-point lead over the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the USHL league standings. The Storm return home next weekend to host the Eastern Conference's Green Bay Gamblers in back to back games at the Viaero Center. The Gamblers dropped a road game 3-1 to the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders on Saturday night.
