Worcester Tornadoes News Release

WORCESTER, MA--- The Tornadoes tied their season high for wins in a row this evening with a 5-3 victory over the American Defenders of New Hampshire.

Chris Farley (3-2) threw arguably his best game of his season in Tornadoes pinstripes this evening, working seven innings and striking out a season high eight for his third win. Nick Asselin (6-5) suffered his fifth loss of the year despite turning in a quality six inning, three run start.

Worcester put up three runs in the first inning. Lucas Taylor and Chris Colabello worked walks around singles from Vinny Pennell, Alex Trezza and Mike MacMillan to do the damage. Worcester wouldn't score again until the eighth when once again Alex Trezza's single, his fourth of the night, drove in a run. Further insurance was provided by the CanAm's leading batter Nick Salotti in the form of another RBI single. Those last two scores would prove to be helpful after what transpired in the ninth.

Santiago Ramirez struck out Jabe Bergeron in the eighth in the first out of what was a four out save. Carlos Sosa dropped a routine fly ball to begin the ninth, followed closely by back-to-back two out RBI singles from Boomer Berry and Greg Lemon making the tally 5-3. Ramirez however would grit his teeth and get Angel Molina to ground into a fielder's choice to conclude the night

A Worcester win tomorrow would mark Worcester's longest winning streak this season; five games. Rich Gedman and Co. will start rookie Ryan Quinn (0-0) against Defender righty Luis Valdez (0-3). July 30 is Asian Long Horned Beetle Eradication Night, the first 1000 fans will receive antenna headbands.
