Sussex Skyhawks News Release

The Skyhawks finished a seven game homestand this week, with three games against Worcester and four against Quebec.

Thursday, July 23 The homestand started Thursday night where Roger Lincoln gave up just one run on six hits over seven innings to pitch the Skyhawks to a 7-1 victory over Worcester. Skyhawks RF Maikel Jova also had a good game at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. That was more than enough support for Skyhawks starting pitcher Roger Lincoln. Lincoln allowed one run on six hits in seven innings of work to earn the win and run his record to 4-3 on the season. Sussex reliever Sandy Nin picked up his sixth save after striking out two in 1 1/3 innings.

Friday, July 24 In front of 3,743 at Skylands Park Friday night, DH Luis Soto's sacrifice fly in the ninth inning brought C Ray Serrano home with the game winning run to lead Sussex to a dramatic 8-7 victory over the Tornadoes. Saturday, July 25 Worcester went on to win the final two games, starting Saturday when 3B Chris Colabello's RBI double in the top of the seventh inning snapped a 4-4 tie and carried Worcester to a 6-4 victory over Sussex. The Tornadoes got homers from DH Carlos Sosa and C Alex Trezza in the game and a 3-for-4 performance from 2B Jeff Lahair to power their offense. LF Vinny Pennell turned in a solid game from the leadoff spot finishing 2-for-5 with two runs scored and CF Lucas Taylor added two hits as well. Worcester starter Ryan Lobban worked six innings and struck out four while allowing three earned runs. He got the win and improved to 7-3 on the season.

Sunday, July 26 The Worcester Tornadoes pounded out 20 hits on their way to doubling up Sussex to the tune of a 12-6 win on the road. Tornadoes 1B Nick Salotti led the way offensively, going 4-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and a RBI. Each starter in the Worcester lineup collected more than one hit with the exception of RF Carlos Sosa. But Sosa was still very effective. Pete LaForest hit for the cycle, finishing 5-for-6 with four RBI and three runs scored, to ignite Quebec to a 14-5 win. Simard gave up five runs on seven hits over six innings, walking two and striking out three, to earn the win. Brett Palanski threw three innings of relief to earn his first save of the year.
