Stockton Thunder News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, a two-time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," is scheduled to host "Thunder FanFest" on Sunday, Oct. 11 at Stockton Arena from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m., the first chance for fans to view the team on an up-close and personal basis.
Admission to the event is free-of-charge and all fans are asked to enter Stockton Arena through the South Entrance. As doors open at 4:00 p.m., all individual game tickets for the 2009-10 regular season will go on sale at the Stockton Arena Alpine Meats Ticket Office, beginning at $7.
Fans in attendance are invited to view the team from their seats to watch a skills competition event displaying the talents of the 2009-10 team, which already returns five players from last year's team that advanced to the second round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs.
Last year's popular "Chalk Talk" with the Thunder coaching staff and players, hosted by Thunder radio play-by-play announcer Mike Benton is scheduled for a return to "Thunder FanFest," where fans get their questions answered by individual players and Head Coach Matt Thomas.
Following the event at 6:00 p.m., fifth-year Thunder Season Ticket Holders are invited onto the ice surface for a rare photo opportunity. The photo shoot will include the entire Thunder team and fellow five-year Season Ticket Holders.
Photos will be distributed to each fifth-year Season Ticket Holder in the photo and additional photos will be available for purchase during the season.
New Thunder merchandise geared for the team's Fifth Anniversary season, including the new third jersey, will be on sale "Fan Attic," the official team store of the Thunder throughout the evening. Fans in attendance will be able to pick up their 2009-10 Season Ticket books and mini-plan tickets and are invited to participate in a handful of family-friendly activities, complete with autographs, raffle contests and more.
Select concessions will be available for fans to sample the taste of a Thunder game in person.
The Thunder return to the ice for preseason play on Thursday, Oct. 8 against the Bakersfield Condors, starting at 7:00 p.m. at Stockton Arena. Tickets for the game (open seating) are on sale at $10 for the general public and $5 for current Thunder Season Ticket Holders and are available by calling the Thunder at (209) 373-1500.
The 2009-10 season, the Fifth Year Anniversary for the team, launches on Friday, Oct. 16 at Qwest Arena against the Idaho Steelheads at 6:10 p.m. and the Thunder home opener is Friday, Oct. 23 against the Ontario Reign at 7:30 p.m. at Stockton Arena.
The proud ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League and Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League, the Thunder was voted "Best Local Sports Team" by readers of the San Joaquin Magazine, has led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew 223,854 fans to Stockton Arena in 2008-09.
