Johnstown Chiefs News Release

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs announced today that they have signed rookie goaltender Jimmy Spratt for the 2009-10 season.

"Jimmy is a very capable and athletic goaltender from Bowling Green University. He had a brilliant junior career with Sioux City of the USHL and we feel he will prove to be a reliable professional as he continues his development. With Mayotte and Spratt, I'm confident our goaltending will be strong," said Chiefs vice president and general manager Bill Bredin.

Spratt was taken in the seventh round (#213 overall) by the Calgary Flames in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. Prior to the 2004 draft, the 23-year-old netminder was coming off of a solid season with Sioux City in which he won 19 games and posted top-five numbers in goals-against average (2.34) and save percentage (.918). His goals-against average from that season still stands as the team record for the lowest in a season. In 2004-05 Spratt was even better with 24 wins in 42 appearances, and he backstopped the Musketeers to a runner-up finish in the USHL playoffs.

After his junior career, Spratt moved on to Bowling Green State University. Spratt played well for the Falcons even though the team struggled to post wins. He helped the team to an 18-21-0 record in 2007-08 which was the highest win total for the team since 1995-96. His senior season was the best statistically with 11 wins, a 3.04 goals-against average, and an .891 save percentage. That season he also tied a Bowling Green record with three shutouts including the school's first ever shutout of Michigan on January, 16 2009.

Spratt becomes the 17th player under contract for the upcoming season. He joins fellow goalie Kris Mayotte and defensemen Bobby Phillips, Mike Knight, Greg Gallagher, Kyle Bushee, David Schulz, Brent Patry, Jim Jorgensen. On offense the Chiefs have Brett Liscomb, Ryan Menei, Erik Felde, Sean Berkstresser, Matt Robinson, Torren Delforte, and Jozef Sladok under contract.
