PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Minnesota Twins announced today that fan-favorite utility man Willians Astudillo will join the Blue Wahoos roster this afternoon on MLB Rehab assignment. Astudillo has been on the injured list since June 27 while recovering from a left oblique strain. In 39 games with the Twins this season, the 27-year-old has hit .263 with three home runs and 13 runs batted in while appearing defensively at catcher (16 games), third base (8), first base (7), right field (6), left field (3), and second base (1).

Acquired as a minor league free agent prior to the 2018 season, Astudillo quickly established himself as one of the Twins most beloved players in a 29-game stretch in the Major Leagues last season both for his performance on the field (.355 batting average) and for his hard-nosed style of play. Nicknamed "La Tortuga" by Twins fans, he holds a career .301/.318/.438 slash line at the Major League level in 68 games.

Astudillo is scheduled to catch and bat second in the Blue Wahoos lineup on Thursday night against the Chattanooga Lookouts.
