LAST GAME: Jackson, Tenn. - The Jackson Generals, the Double-A affiliate of Major League Baseball's Arizona Diamondbacks, fell victim to a pair of late-inning home runs against the Montgomery Biscuits on Wednesday, dropping a 5-4 game at The Ballpark at Jackson. The damage-doing dingers accounted for three runs for Montgomery (78-44), who have now scored eight of their ten runs in this series against Jackson (68-51) on homers.

TODAY'S PITCHING MATCHUP: Right-hander Emilio Vargas takes the ball with the Generals trying to stave off a series loss in game three of this five-game series. Vargas' current scoreless innings streak sits at 17 consecutive frames, the longest of any Jackson starter this year. He has not allowed an earned run in four of his last five starts, including a five-inning effort against Montgomery on July 18 (3 hits, 2 unearned runs). Vargas will try to stay hot against Montgomery southpaw Shane McClanahan, a 2018 first-round pick by the Rays who has flown through their system with a 2.35 ERA in 107 1/3 innings this year. McClanahan has made one previous start with Montgomery, defeating Birmingham last week (5.0 IP, 0 R).

ROLES REVERSED: In each of the last two games (August 13-14), the Generals have conceded homers to the Biscuits that turned the tide in the two Jackson losses. Jackson leads the league in homers with 114, but they've only cracked one dinger in that span, compared to five for Montgomery. The Biscuits, who also lead the minors in stolen bases at 191, have managed to steal just one base over the past two games. The Generals picked off one runner and caught another stealing on Wednesday night to help keep the game close.

ALL-STAR 2020: On July 29, the Jackson Generals announced that they would play host to the 2020 Southern League All-Star Game at The Ballpark at Jackson, their first All-Star Game since 2011. Manager Blake Lalli was a participant in that 2011 game, which the North Division won 6-3. (CLICK: 2020 SL ASG release)
