Huntsville Havoc News Release

HUNTSVILLE, AL - Huntsville Havoc fans will see a familiar face this Saturday night as the Huntsville Havoc play host to the Columbus Cottonmouths. Former Huntsville forward, Chris George, will be play the opening shift for the Havoc. His #17 jersey will be retired as a Havoc jersey during the first period intermission.

It's all part of the 3rd Annual Melissa George Night presented by Holland Dental. The Havoc will wear special pink, blue and white striped jerseys. After the game, the jerseys will be auctioned off with all proceeds going to the fund to purchase several pieces of phototherapy equipment for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children. This state of the art equipment is for critically ill premature babies in the NICU, most weighing less than two pounds.

Last year over $61,000 for the Melissa George Neonatal Memorial Fund was raised. Over the past two years, the auction has raised over $115,000 for Melissa's fund. Not only will the jerseys be auctioned off but also the pink warm- up sticks. Each Havoc player will use a pink stick during warm-ups. During the game, the team will hold a silent auction, with each stick going to the highest bidder. In addition to this, the first 1000 fans who bring a new item for the NICU or a monetary donation to the Melissa George Neonatal Memorial Fund will receive a "Bobble Head" figurine of George. Items needed include clothing, caps, disposable cameras booties and blankets for premature babies.

The Melissa George Neonatal Memorial Fund is a special cause for the Huntsville Havoc. It's named in memory of the daughter of Chris and his wife, Amy, former WHNT-TV news anchor. Melissa and her twin sister Ann Catherine were born 14 weeks early in 2005. Melissa passed away in the NICU and Ann Catherine spent the first 68 days of her life there. 100% of what is raised through the Melissa George Neonatal Memorial Fund is used to purchase lifesaving equipment for the NICU and to provide support for families of premature infants.
