Sioux City Explorers News Release

Sioux City, IA - After a nine game road trip the Explorers were happy to be home and they showed it on Monday night. The Explorers 12-4 win snapped the Chicago Dogs winning streak at nine games while also propelling their own to three.

Recently chosen to the American Association South Division All-Star Team, Tyler Fallwell made his third start of the season and of his professional career and it turned out to be so far the best one. Fallwell (6-4) tossed six and 2/3rds innings allowing four runs, on eight hits while walking just two and striking out nine.

The nine punch outs are tied for the third most in a start this season for Sioux City. Fallwell at one point set down eight straight Dogs, including striking out the side in the sixth which included two of the Chicago Dogs All-Stars in Keon Barnum and Victor Roache.

Chicago struck first in this game however. After a walk to lead off the top of the second, Jordan Dean hit his third home run of the season against the X's, the two run blast made it 2-0 Dogs. A walk to Gustavo Pierre followed by a strike out had David Olmedo-Barrera coming up with a two out single to make it 3-0 Chicago.

But Sioux City responded and then some immediately in the bottom half of the second. Jose Sermo took the first pitch he saw of the inning and lined it over the wall for his ninth of the year and to make it 3-1.

Sioux City would then proceed to load the bases. Kyle Wren came up with two away in the inning and tie the game with a single up the middle for the first, two of his four RBI's in the game. That began a hit parade for the X's as the next three men would come through with RBI singles. Michael Lang, Nate Samson and Sermo again for his second RBI of the inning to make it 6-3. Sioux City would score six times in the frame on seven hits with five of those runs coming with two outs.

A Drew Stankiewicz triple in the third would cash in another run for Sioux City after Dylan Kelly drove him home with a double making it 7-3.

Sioux City put together a four run fifth again loading the bases with one out. Wren answered the call yet again crushing a double to center field scoring a pair. A ground ball by Samson to second was mishandled by Edwin Arroyo allowing another two runs to score and the X's made it 11-3 at the end of the fifth.

Wren ended his big day for the X's by going 2-5 with four RBI's and two runs scored accounting for six of the 12 runs scored by Sioux City.

Sebastian Zawada added a two out RBI single in the sixth to give the X's their twelfth and final run of the contest. In the game Sioux City scored nine of their runs with two outs in the inning.

Edwin Arroyo was a bright spot for Chicago on the night going 4-4 with an RBI single in the seventh to make it 12-4.

Carlos Zambrano the former big leaguer tossed a perfect eighth for the Dogs, striking out two.

Sioux City and Chicago will do it again on Tuesday night with first pitch set for 7:12 pm. Taylor Jordan gets the draw for the X's and he will face southpaw Austin Wright for Chicago.
