December 10, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Springfield Falcons News Release

Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons, proud members of the American Hockey League, are proud to partner with Macy's and the Make-A-Wish FoundationR to celebrate National Believe Day on Friday, December 11 when the Falcons host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Macy's designated December 11th as National Believe Day to celebrate our believing in the true meaning of the season and inspiring communities to embrace generosity and goodwill.

As part of this celebration, there will be a ceremonial puck drop before the Falcons game involving 5 year-old wish child, Gabrielle and her mom Regina, colleague Andrea York, Macy's Holyoke Store Manager, and Philip Glynn, M.D., Board Member, Make-A-Wish FoundationR of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Additional Believe celebrations include street teams in select cities across the country rewarding people with gift cards for random acts of kindness. The day culminates with the premiere of "Yes, Virginia," an animated special airing that night that celebrates the journey of eight-year old Virginia O'Hanlon who writes to the editor of the New York Sun in 1897 in her quest to find out if Santa Claus truly exists.

"Macy's believes in being both socially responsible and spreading holiday cheer within the communities that we serve," said Paul Gassner, District Vice President, Macy's. "Our Believe campaign celebrates the spirit of the holiday season while it gives back to local Make-A-Wish children. We're thrilled to know that we've inspired our shoppers to help raise funds for an organization that works at making the wishes of children with life threatening diseases become a reality."

For a second year in a row, Macy's Believe campaign embodies the spirit of the season, by creatively taking the concept of letters to Santa and making it a collaborative fundraising effort. For each letter written and stamped to Santa at the North Pole, and dropped off at Believe mailboxes at all Macy's stores across the country, Macy's donates $1 to The Make-A-Wish FoundationR up to $1 million dollars. Falcons fans will also have a chance to submit their Santa letters at the game.
