
Falcons Host Devils Saturday Night

The Springfield Falcons and Lowell Devils meet for the ninth time this season when they go head-to-head on Saturday night at the MassMutual Center. The Falcons are 7-1-0-0 against the Devils this year with the most recent win occurring on February 2 in Lowell when Ben Simon netted the game-winner in overtime leading Springfield to a 3-2 win. The Falcons have won the last three head-to-head meetings with two of the wins occurring in the shootout and one victory ending in overtime.
Jean-Francois Jacques continues to lead Springfield in scoring against Lowell this year with six goals and five assists for 11 points in seven games, while center Marc Pouliot is second on the team in scoring against the Devils with four goals and five assists for nine points in eight games. Falcons goaltenders Jeff Deslauriers and Devan Dubnyk have shared the goaltending duties against the Falcons this year with Deslauriers posting a record of 5-0 with a 1.94 goals against average and .937 save percentage, while Dubnyk is 2-1 with a 2.00 goals against average and .945 save percentage against the Devils this season.
Lowell's Noah Clarke continues to lead his team in scoring against Springfield this season with four goals and four assists for eight points in seven games. Petr Vrana is second in scoring against the Falcons with two goals and five assists for seven points in eight games. Goaltender Frank Doyle has appeared in seven of the first eight games against the Falcons this year posting a record of 1-4-2 with a 2.81 goals against average and .895 save percentage.
The Falcons head into tonight's game having won their last two games, including a 4-2 win over the Philadelphia Phantoms on Friday night on home ice. Marc Pouliot led Springfield with two goals and one assist earning the game's first star, while Patrick Thoresen also added one goal and one assist earning the game's second star. Theo Peckham tallied his fourth marker of the year last night and Rob Schremp collected a pair of assists. Following tonight's game, the Falcons will next play at Hartford on Wednesday, February 13. Springfield regained fourth place in the Atlantic Division with their win on Friday, they are now one point ahead of the Manchester Monarchs.
The Devils head into Springfield having lost to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 3-2 on Friday night. Pierre-Luc Leblond and Barry Tallackson scored for Lowell, while goaltender Frank Doyle stopped 23 of 26 shots. The Devils have now gone 0-8-2-1 in their last 11 games and currently sit in seventh place in the Atlantic Division with a record of
13-27-5-4.
THORESEN BACK WITH FALCONS: The Falcons announced Wednesday that center Patrick Thoresen has been assigned to Springfield by the Edmonton Oilers on a conditioning assignment. Thoresen scored one goal, collected one assist and earned a fighting major in his return to Springfield's lineup on Friday. Thoresen was recalled by the Oilers on December 1 and the 5-foot-11, 188-pound native of Hamar, Norway has collected 13 goals and nine assists for 22 points in 24 games with Springfield. Thoresen remains second on the Falcons in goals with 13 and also remains sixth in scoring. In 17 games with Edmonton this season, Thoresen has collected two goals and one assist for three points and six penalty minutes.
Thoresen was named the RBK / AHL Player of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, October 14, 2007. Thoresen is in his second season of professional hockey after splitting last year between Wilkes-Barre and Edmonton. He scored his first NHL goal on October 12, 2006 against the San Jose Sharks and he collected four goals and 12 assists for 16 points in 68 games with the Oilers last year.
FALCONS TRANSACTIONS: The Falcons also announced Wednesday that they have signed left wing Daniel Sparre and defenseman Mike Gabinet to Professional Tryout Agreements. Sparre, who made his Falcons debut on Friday, is in his third professional season and has played in 45 games for the Columbia Inferno in the ECHL this season collecting 19 goals and 14 assists for 33 points and 40 penalty minutes. Sparre led Columbia in goals and was third on the team in scoring. Sparre has played in 37 career AHL games, all with the Hartford Wolf Pack during the 2005-06 season, registering six goals and seven assists for 13 points.
Gabinet has spent this season with the South Carolina Stingrays in the ECHL registering two goals and 12 assists for 14 points and 18 penalty minutes in 22 games. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound native of Edmonton, Alberta has played in 18 career AHL games collecting two assists while with the Iowa Stars during the 2005-06 campaign.
FALCONS TEAM NOTES: Defenseman T.J. Kemp has registered a point in five straight games collecting two goals and four assists in that span. Kemp had his first two-goal game of the season on February 1 at Hartford. Kemp leads all Falcons defensemen in scoring with six goals and 25 assists for 31 points in 43 games. Marc Pouliot is one game shy of 200 for his pro career. Allan Rourke played in his 500th career pro game on Friday. Tim Sestito played in his 200th career pro game on Friday.
