Albany Devils News Release
SPRINGFIELD, MA -- The Albany Devils grabbed the game's first lead, but the Springfield Falcons answered with back-to-back goals en route to a 2-1 victory Sunday at MassMutual Center. Mike Sislo scored for Albany and Scott Wedgewood turned aside 22 shots.
The Devils were trying to build off Saturday's 3-1 victory against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, but lost to the Falcons for the first time this season. The setback moves Albany to 16-14-2-5. Springfield, which is first in the Northeast Division, improves to 26-10-3-0.
Sislo's eighth goal of the season opened the scoring 56 seconds into the middle frame. The Devils winger patiently walked along the half-wall and snapped a wrister past Springfield netminder Anton Forsberg for a 1-0 advantage.
The Falcons responded 11 minutes later. Austin Madaisky sent a floater towards the Devils net. Wedgewood got his body in front of the shot, but the puck popped over his shoulder and into the back of the net at 12:14
After the intermission, Springfield's Dana Tyrell and Kerby Rychel connected on a 2-on-0 break. Tyrell sent the pass atop the crease for Rychel to score into a gaping net 49 seconds into the period.
Forsberg, who has spent time in the NHL with Columbus this season, earned the victory with 30 saves.
