Springfield Falcons News Release

Springfield, Mass. - The Falcons fell behind early in the second period, but scored two unanswered tallies to take their first victory of the season over the Devils by a score of 2-1 this afternoon at the MassMutual Center.

The win improves the Springfield Falcons to a 26-10-3-0 record and gives the team control of the Eastern Conference with 56 points. With their first win over the Devils, the Falcons move to 1-1-1-0 in the eight-game season series. The loss drops Albany to 16-14-2-5 on the season.

Falcons goaltender Anton Forsberg stopped 30 of 31 shots in earning his 18th win of the season. Devils goaltender Scott Wedgewood turned away 22 of 24. The Falcons were unable to convert on five power play opportunities. The penalty kill unit shut down all three Albany man-advantages, going 10-for-10 on the penalty kill this weekend.

After a scoreless first period, the Devils found the back of the net just 56 seconds into the second frame. Darcy Zajac fed Mike Sislo in the left wing circle. Sislo let off a wrist shot through traffic that beat Forsberg on his blocker side to go up 1-0.

The Falcons tied the game just after the halfway mark. Austin Madaisky entered the zone on the right side and lobbed the puck towards Devils goaltender Scott Wedgewood. The puck took an awkward bounce off Wedgewood's glove and found its way into the net. Kerby Rychel and Josh Anderson were credited with the assists.

Springfield took the lead 49 seconds into the third period to down the Devils, 2-1. Luke Adam passed ahead to Dana Tyrell, who started a two-on-zero breakaway with Rychel. Tyrell drew Wedgewood out of position before sending a feed across the slot for Rychel to redirect into the net.

The Falcons travel to rematch the Devils on Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m.
