Fresno Falcons News Release
Anchorage, Alaska - The Fresno Falcons fell to the Alaska Aces 4-3 in overtime on Saturday in front of 5,370 fans at Sullivan Arena. Fresno finishes its six-game road trip with a 2-3-1 record.
The Aces scored the lone goal of the first period with just 18.4 seconds remaining. Ryan Glenn's shot from the blue line was deflected twice: once off of a Falcons stick, and then again by Bo Cheesman at the hash marks, who redirected it past goaltender Kris Mayotte giving Alaska a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Fresno dominated the second period, outshooting Alaska 22-5, but found themselves in a 3-3 tie after 40 minutes of play.
Jarret Konkle tied the score at one, scoring his fifth goal of the season on a power play at 3:55. Brady Leisenring fed the puck to Konkle on the near post, and he flipped it past goaltender Chris Beckford-Tseu.
The Aces answered with a power-play goal of their own exactly two minutes later to go back on top. Kimbi Daniels moved the puck to Corbin Schmidt in the high slot, and he beat Mayotte for his first of the year.
But, the Falcons came back and pulled even again just 20 seconds later. It was Konkle again, taking a pass on the back door and pushing the puck past Beckford-Tseu for his second of the night.
The back-and-forth nature of the period continued as Alaska went ahead again 1:34 later. Josh Soares rushed into the Fresno zone, and from the right-wing circle snapped a shot past Mayotte to make it 3-2.
Alaska had a 5-on-3 power-play for just under a minute late in the period, which the Falcons were able to kill off. Just as Tyler Kindle exited the penalty box, Luke Curtin hit him in stride, and he came in on a breakaway. Kindle made several moves on Beckford-Tseu, finally flipping a shot over his glove for the shorthanded goal, tying the score heading into the final period.
After a scoreless third period, the game went to overtime. In the extra session, Daniels gathered in a loose puck in the neutral zone, and skated in alone on Mayotte. Daniels beat the Falcons goaltender with a quick snap shot to give Alaska the win.
Fresno returns home on Saturday, November 24, hosting the Alaska Aces at 7:30 p.m. The first 3,000 fans in attendance receive a Falcons poster courtesy of Midas and Port of Subs. All fans are also encouraged to bring a coat to the game to donate to the Coats for Kids campaign.
