Springfield Falcons News Release

Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons surrendered four third period goals to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Wednesday night en route to a 4-2 loss at the MassMutual Center.

Springfield got the first scoring chances of the hockey game thanks to an early five-on-three opportunity. Patrick Cullity and Stephon Williams took penalties in the first ten minutes of the game, but the Falcons couldn't convert on a 70-second two-man advantage. Bridgeport nearly opened the scoring with seconds in the period left as Alan Quine fired a puck off the post and into the net. After a review, it was determined the puck didn't cross the goal line before time had expired, keeping the game scoreless.

The Falcons finally broke the scoreless tie on a goal mouth scramble early in the second period. Michael Bunting found Philip Samuelsson whose shot got lost in the crease. Laurent Dauphin was at the side of the net and deposited the loose change past Williams for his tenth of the season at 6:46. After a review, the call of the ice stood as a good goal.

Bridgeport evened the score in the third period when Ben Holmstrom deflected a Matt Carkner shot for his fourth of the season. Justin Florek also picked up an assist on the goal scored at 4:45 that opened the barrage. The Sound Tigers parlayed that momentum into their first lead of the night when Bracken Kearns fed Mike Halmo in the slot. Halmo fired a one-timer past Treutle for his 16th of the season at 8:42. James Wright added an assist on the goal. The Falcons roared right back, scoring just under a minute later at 9:37. Ross Mauermann fed Eric Selleck in the slot, who then dropped a pass back to Steven Delisle. Delisle's one-timer from the point beat Williams for his third of the season and tied the score at 2-2. The crazy sequence finally concluded at 10:46 when Wright took a pass from Carter Verhaeghe along the boards. Wright drove to the net and slid the puck behind Treutle for his tenth of the season. Tanner Fritz finished the scoring at 15:06 when he fired his second of the season past Treutle from the slot. Treutle made 35 saves in the loss, which downed his record to 11-14-5 on the season. Williams made 19 saves in the win, which saw his record improve to 11-9-0 on the year.

The Falcons will take on the Hartford Wolf Pack in a home-and-home series this weekend. The first game will be in Hartford at the XL Center on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. The weekend finale will take place at the MassMutual Center on Sunday night at 5:00 p.m. The game features the team poster giveaway and full team autograph session sponsored by Xfinity.
