Reign Close Two-Game Series with Barracuda Tonight
March 16, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Ontario Reign News Release
Ontario, CA - The Ontario Reign, proud American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL), take on the San Jose Barracuda tonight at 7:30 PT at SAP Center. Tonight is the 11th of 12 regular-season meetings between the two teams this season.
Sutter Hits 600:
In 599 career AHL games, Reign forward Brett Sutter has 96 goals and 149 assists for 245 points. He scored his first goal with the Reign on Sunday at San Jose.
Heading Home:
After tonight, the Reign will have played seven of their last eight games on the road (currently 5-1-1-0 in last seven).
Series at a Glance:
The Reign hold an 8-2-0-0 record against the Barracuda and stand 2-2-0-0 at SAP Center. Reign forward Sean Backman leads all skaters in the series with nine points (three goals, six assists) and Reign forward Michael Mersch leads all skaters with five goals. The two teams traded victories in the first two games of the series before the Reign went on a six-game winning streak, including two overtime wins. San Jose snapped the streak on February 10 and the Reign picked up a 4-1 victory in the most recent meeting last Sunday. The two teams close their regular-season series on March 30 in San Jose.
Leader of the Pack:
Backman leads the Reign and is tied for 13th in the AHL with 48 points (17 goals, 31 assists).
Reign Stand in the Middle of the San-d Pit:
After tonight's tilt against the Barracuda, the Reign return to Citizens Business Bank Arena to face the San Antonio Rampage on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and the San Diego Gulls on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. They met the Barracuda last Sunday, earning a 4-1 win, fell to the Gulls Saturday in overtime, 2-1, and came away with a pair of victories against the Rampage in San Antonio on March 6 and March 9. Game-by-Game Results
Checkers Flip the Script:
If the 2016 Calder Cup Playoffs started tonight, the Reign would meet the Charlotte Checkers in the first round in a best-of-five series with the "crossover" matchup from the Central Division.
