Falcons Downed by Bruins in 8-1 Loss

Providence RI - The Springfield Falcons could not contain the Providence Bruins' offense in an 8-1 loss at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Friday night.

Just 13 seconds into the game, Justin Hache took a tripping penalty which Providence took advantage of. Frank Vatrano scored his fourteenth of the year at 1:16 with assists from Alexander Khokhlachev and Seth Griffith. Noel Acciari gave Providence a 2-0 lead at 10:17 with a one-timer shot past Falcons goaltender Marek Langhamer. His sixth of the year was assisted by Anthony Camara and Linus Arnesson.

7:33 into the second period, Providence extended their lead to a 3-0 score. Griffith tallied his fourteenth of the year with assists from Vatrano and David Pastrnak. 14 seconds later, Michael Bunting scored his fifth of the year on a one-timer to bring the score to a 3-1 Bruins lead. Phil Lane made a check to steal the puck and center it to the rookie for an assist. Tyler Gaudet also assisted. Vatrano scored his second power play goal of the night and fifteenth of the season at 13:26. Austin Czarnik and Griffith assisted to make it a 4-1 lead for the Bruins. Colby Cave scored an even strength goal with six minutes left. Chris Breen assisted on his ninth of the year to extend the lead to four goals. The period concluded with another Bruins' score with 39 seconds remaining. Pastenak scored his first of the year with assists from Griffith and Vatrano. The four-goal second period ended for the Bruins with a 6-1 lead.

NIklas Treutle took over the goaltending duties for the third period as the Falcons pulled their netminder for the first time this season. 23 seconds into the third period, Justin Hickman extended the Providence lead to a 7-1 margin with his second of the year. Griffith and Camera assisted on the play. The final goal of the night was a hat trick score at 12:46 by Vatrano for his sixteenth of the year. Pastenak was credited with the lone assist. Langhamer took the loss with 22 saves, moving his record to 2-3-1. Treutle made six saves in relief during the third period. Malcolm Subban stopped 17 shots to imrprove his record to 14-8-4.

The Falcons return to the MassMutual Center for a 7:00 p.m. contest against the Portland Pirates tomorrow night. The Teddy Bear Pools and Spas chuck-a-puck jackpot is at $4,000.
