January 29, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Albany Devils News Release
ALBANY, NY -- For the second straight game, the Albany Devils scored a tying goal with less than two minutes to play to force overtime. Unlike Wednesday, the Devils didn't get the outcome they wanted, falling to the Utica Comets, 4-3, Friday at Times Union Center.
Box Score | Highlights & Postgame Reaction
Former RPI Engineer Mike Zalewski stole the puck as the Devils were on the verge of a rush out of their own zone. After his thievery, Zalewski found himself alone with netminder Yann Danis, deked and hit the lower left corner 46 seconds into the extra frame.
The tally came after Brian O'Neill tied the game with 1:58 remaining on a deflection off a Marc-Andre Gragnani point shot.
The Devils were able to secure a point for 12th time in the last 15 outings (8-2-3-0). Overall, they move to 24-11-7-0, while the Comets improve to 19-17-3-3.
Reid Boucher had a pair of goals, giving him three in two games since being returned on loan by the New Jersey Devils Wednesday. He pulled even with Mike Sislo for the team lead, scoring his 16th and 17th goals of the season.
O'Neill also had a multiple-point effort with a goal and an assist and Jim O'Brien supplied a pair of assists.
In his 30th game of the season, Yann Danis turned aside 25 of 29 shots.
Zalewski was one of three Utica players with multiple points. He had a pair of tallies and Jordan Subban had a goal and an assist. Chris Higgins posted a pair of assists.
In goal, Richard Bachman stopped 22 of 25 attempts.
The first half of the game was a special teams' battle with the first three tallies -- Boucher, Zalewski and Subban -- coming with the man advantage. Albany finished 1-for-5 on the power play, while Utica went 2-for-4.
